First Dahlia bloom
So pretty. Taken with my cell phone camera and on a rainy, grey morning, but it’s still lovely.

York Beach, ME adventure
My boyfriend and I had a mini vacation for my birthday. We didn’t do much other than go up to York Beach, Maine for a day. We did a lot of exploring on all the rocks around the beach and surrounding area for hours. It was a blast, but sore feet were not so much fun. We went so far out that Nick said it would have been better to take the road back… concrete was not kind to our feet at all. I cut one of toes from a slip on the rocks and didn’t even notice until we were on our way home hours later.
We found a dead string ray in a tide pool. Unfortunately didn’t have the camera with us at that point.
I had never been to York before, but Nick had been there a lot so he “showed me around” all the places. We had a nice lunch at the Union Bluff hotel. I had a fish fillet fried sammich and he had an amazing flat bread pizza.
After lunch we went to Nubble Light, the lighthouse, then took the scenic route home. It was lovely, until we hit rush hour traffic around 5pm… Didn’t think that one through. We took a detour that was the scariest detour ever… I’m not sure what town we were in, but it was not good. My GPS kept trying to send us down a one way road in the wrong way that we needed to go. Sigh… Geeps… (GPS)
Here’s the pics!

These bugs… no bigger than half a centimeter. They were on top of the water, huddling together. They were also all over the rocks in some areas. You have to click the image to zoom in. They are so creepy.
Click here for the full set. We spent more time exploring than picture taking.
Until next time,

fresh peas, even nature is art
Oh sweet, sweet corn. It was sooo good fresh from the stalk! I only planted corn, peas, and yellow beans this year. I have had one harvest of peas and beans (before these were taken), now everything was eaten by a skunk/gopher/badger/woodchuck, depends on who you ask…. at least I’ve got my corn!

Nashua River Rail Trail
Yeah, I have a pink bike shirt.
My boyfriend and I rode our bikes from Ayer to Pepperell and back again on Saturday.
Rebel Red
This is my favorite label. I’ll have to get the actual image at another time.
Akira is so tubby, wouldn’t move her fat butt to let me take pictures!
Should be ready by mid-July!
‘course, all I hear in my head now is “with a rebel yell, she cried more more more”
arg…
Homecookin’ success
I enjoy cooking. I used to cook a lot more than I used to, but I live alone and there isn’t much motivation to cook a whole meal for myself. But on the nights when my boyfriend is over, I feel inspired to make a decent meal. Plus, making it myself gives me a sense of accomplishment.
I set a fairly high bar for myself last night. (maybe) Home-made wheat noodles and home-made meatballs. The meatballs I’ve made before, so that was not the challenge, it was the noodles.
But this is what it looked like in the end!

I had added slices of my treberbrot too. I made a meal, completely by my hand, minus the sauce, and, now that I think about it, I didn’t even have homebrew with it. *facepalm*

Treberbrot
It’s been a busy week and I haven’t had time to update. I brewed a red on Memorial Day and dried the leftover spent grains to put into bread. I wanted to re-use what I could instead of just throwing them away. I looked up what to do with the grains and the number one result was bread.
Treberbrot: Spent Grain Bread or Treberbrot (the German word for spent grain is Treber) is a hearty bread that is made with the addition of spent grain from the brewing process. The spent grain adds some sweetness, texture and a lot of fiber to the bread.
