Parachutes and Squeelings

I’ve re-proofed my NaNoWriMo 2009 story, Parachutes and Squeelings, again after gifting it to my grandmother for Christmas. Needless to say, there were so many errors that I missed that I’m a little embarrassed. I guess that’s what I get for thinking one round of proofing would be enough.  >.<  tsk tsk.

(What’s a Squeeling, you ask? This is a Squeeling.)

Which means, that my other novel that I had finished prior to Parachutes, Adola, will be riddled with even more mistakes… My poor grandmother, the ace of spelling and grammar, she must be so disappointed in her slop of a granddaughter.

And here’s the other kicker. I know the difference and correct usage of the “its/it’s”, “your/you’re”, “there/they’re/their.” I may not know my grammar and parts of speech all that well, and my words may get out of order sometimes, and I have trouble with keeping the same tense (was, were, are) but at least I can get those right. Right? Well, as it would turn out, the biggest mistake I made was the “its/it’s” error. Shame on me! Slap on the wrist! But at least there was only one “your/you’re” error and no “there/they’re/their” errors. Phew.

I think my biggest problem was that I went through it so quickly to have printed versions by Christmas that I didn’t even think to re-proof it after the first revised version. And seeing it right after I wrote it, my mind could fill in the missing words. Plus most of the time, my fingers don’t always type what my brain is saying and things get left out or just don’t make sense. Though there is no excuse for the wrong grammar.

I’m usually so quick to call out someones mistake, now here I go making the ones I rip on others for. Argh. Hypocrite. Heh, I’ve even been called the Grammar Police on World of Warcraft. I have no tolerance for dumb children. ‘You’ has three letters, believe it or not.

I found this a while ago: 10 Words you need to stop Misspelling, which has a follow up of How to use an Apostrophe. Looks like I have some studying to do. And I recently found: “Stop saying Fail.” So I was going to say, “I had a grammar Fail,” but I’m not going to say that now and try to stop using FAIL, so much because I noticed I was using it much too often. Speech things get to me, example: people that use “like” too much, and when I notice I do it, I do my best to substitute it, or not use it at all. It is possible, you know.

Anyway, I’m ranting. After wearing the ‘writer’ hat for almost three years now, I feel odd not having something to write. So I’ve decided to write the sequel to Adola, and getting back into it is going to be interesting. I already had to re-read the ending to see how it ended. How much else have I forgotten? Curse this terrible memory of mine…. at least I can write down stories… maybe I should keep a diary of sorts so I can remember my life, too.

New Shoulder bag

My first bag was starting to fall apart. The strap was not built as sturdy as it should have been, so I built a new bag.

Update: Watercolors

I’ve been doing a lot of painting with water colors lately. I drew this with hopes for Spring….

Zombie Vampires?

…seemed way cooler in my dream this morning…

Nerf Guns…

…a possible obsession.

Okay, I’ll admit, this isn’t MY gun or my mod, or my anything. It’s my boyfriends new Maverick. He modded it like crazy (I’ll have to get the details from him later), I like the paint job. I just wanted to share his new gun.

Now to talk about me: In my collection, I’ve added the N-Strike Rapid Fire. It’s large and in charge and sounds awesome. I like it, but at the same time, I don’t like it. It takes too much effort (yes, I’m that lazy) to pump it up, and too much time to recollect stray darts and reload. Though, as for my love of the movie District 9, this gun is the perfect shape (almost) to mod it to look like the gravity gun… or whatever it’s really called. It was like the gravity gun from the game Half-Life.

Anyway, I’d love to mod it so I wouldn’t have to pump it a million times to get enough pressure to work correctly. It honestly hurts my shoulder. Or better yet, find some way to hot-swap the barrels so there isn’t so much down time.

I still love my Longshot more than the others… well, I think I love the Mavericks the most. They’re small, lightweight, easy to reload, and cheap! Can’t go wrong with cheap, especially when you break one….

Monsieur Grenouille

Also known as Mister Frog. After the unfortunate deaths of my Oscars and other fish, I’ve since turned the tank into a terrarium for the frog that I raised from a tadpole. I’ve had the little bugger for a year now since he came in a bucket of minnows for ice fishing. I’ll continue to care for him and feed him crickets until it’s warm enough to release him back into the wild. It took me forever to catch the little guy, but once I did, he was calm enough to just sit in the net while I transported him. Good little froggy.

Frogs new tank

This is his new home. 120 gallon fish tank turned terrarium. I hope he likes it. He’s currently hiding out in his little cave. I only turned on the light to take pictures, otherwise I’m leaving him be for awhile. Let him settle in.

The newest editions to the Feltling Family.

The birds are made with felt, stuffing, and embroidery floss. The branches are pipe cleaners, attached to cross-stitch canvas and embroidery hoop. Gifts for my friends for the holidays. I made three versions of these.

New Year Resolutions?

Nah. I don’t think so. I know I’m not going to change. I did a good deal of changing months ago after breaking up with a long-term boyfriend. I’m quite happy with ‘new me.’  Though I think I’ll do some minimizing of my stuff… well, junk, rather. Minimalist is the way to go, I say.

I spent the end of the year and the beginning of the new year up in New Hampshire with my new boyfriend of awesome. I had a lovely quiet time. Didn’t even stay up past midnight… What am I…? 80? No, only in WoW… sigh (I’m a nerd)   But it was nice.  We watched the movie UP, then fell asleep to Coraline.

I came home on Sunday to a tank full of dead fish. So long Shuffles, so long gouramis. I’ll admit that I think they all froze to death. Sorry guys. Though, I am kind of glad that Shuffles died. He was not looking good in the least. Some disease got him and got him good, probably the Ick. Plus being so depressed over Flapjacks dying he had stopped eating anyway. It took me three hours to drain my 120 gallon tank. I’m going to let it dry out for a week or so then turn it into a terrarium for the frog for the rest of the winter. Sigh. My place smelled like dead fish after taking them out of the tank. Now there’s another over-sized fish in my freezer. Shuffles was at least 12″ long. Even the gouramis seemed too big to flush.

Here’s to a happy, healthy New Year.

Until next time,
